Camping Trip #2

Amazingly, we managed to go camping twice this year, both times with my parents. The first weekend in October they came over here and we camped at a county park close to town. I must say that we have been impressed with the county parks here; there are three that offer camping... primitive sites, as well as electric sites that even serve RVs. Two are next to nice lakes that also allow swimming and with nice trails too. It's super close, and super cheap. So off we went, with the forecast predicting a perfect fall weekend. Warm during the day but not too chilly at night.

The plan was to get an electric site so we could use some space heaters just to make it nicer at night for sleeping. Well, we found a great site, good location, spacious, no one else too close, close to the lake and the absolute best port-a-potty you will ever see... we got things unloaded, the tent set up (we added sheets over the vents to make the tent less open to the chilly night air)... and then we noticed that we had inadvertently chosen a primitive site... read: no electric! We opted to just stay where we were and hoped it wouldn't be too cold and we'd be fine with good sleeping bags and extra blankets.

Fares couldn't spend the night with us as he was very busy with grading and other school work. But he came over for dinner. We had a good chicken dinner after dark and of course, S'Mores. Gabriela has quickly learned that a campfire demands s'mores or it's not a real campfire :)

We put her to bed early and my parents and I stayed up until the fire went out. Our night did not go quite as well as we had hoped. My mattress lost its air and it was a bit chillier than we had hoped. Mom eventually went to the truck for a few hours and we all slept in a bit. But we survived and all was better in the morning.

We had a great breakfast... pancakes, eggs and bacon and hot chocolate (it was still chilly) Fares spent Sunday with us and he had fun with the camera...

Here she is riding her bike and it gives you a look at the camp road and the outhouse... seriously the nicest I've ever seen... it was big and spacious inside, clean cement floor with a real toilet seat and lid.
